MAGNUS Table – 10′ long solid black walnut dining table

MAGNUS Table - 10' long solid black walnut dining table

Nearly 10 years ago a black walnut tree in our neighborhood had to be cut down due to rot in the main trunk. (NE Portland, OR). I salvaged 5 limbs that were 14-16″ in diameter and slowly air dried them in my shop. 6 years later I crafted this table from the legs and other walnut from the Northwest. It easily seats 10 people; 12 to get cozy. I made it with removeable leaves at the ends. The frame/skirt is also made from walnut but has custom designed & welded metal brackets that enable the table to be completely disassembled and flat packed (useful in a move 2.5yrs ago). I named it after my son….Magnus.

There’s nothing like the feeling of fresh cut grass under the toes, especially when stepping out of the shower. This Moss Carpet by Nguyen La Chanh brings the outside indoors in an unconventionally natural way by placing it underfoot. The lush green lawn thrives in humid environments, which makes your bathroom a perfect place to grow. We found the concept absolutely fascinating and delightful! We hope you do too.

Sitting outside this morning, I began to read the New York Times and sip on some enjoyable Stumptown coffee. It was one of those mindless mornings where I was making every effort to relax. I sensed something else going on in the yard that I just cannot explain. Nothing caught my eye, it was only me on the patio. My wife was at work and my kids were at school. The wind blew threw the trees, and I looked around for critters on the ground. Suddenly, I glanced towards the bird house I made when we moved to our Creole Cottage-Style home. Maxine, my daughter, loves to help me fill the birdhouse with food every time I bring it down to replace the bird seeds. Everyone should have one-a bird house-that is. If you don’t have one already, you need one. For such amusements as squirrels attempting at a free lunch…or better, what I saw today. Suddenly, there it was, a western bluebird!

Over the last half-century, modern architecture has redefined itself. Originally sparked from political and social revolutions, modern architecture has more recently developed to reflect technological and engineering advancements. Boasting simplicity and functionality, modern design has taken many forms from furniture to style to buildings and beyond. I came across many inspirational designs by architects such as Massimiliano Fuksas who cross the boundaries of modern design.
